The popular pastime is easy to learn, and it’s fun for all ages.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s your first time playing, or you hope to sharpen your skills. Our guide will help you get started and have a great time on the cours
Getting Started
Like any other activity, you need to gather your equipment and supplies before you play miniature golf. You won’t need much, but the following are essential:
- Putter
- Ball
- Scorecard
- Pencil
Mini Golf Basics
Mini golf is all about getting the ball from tee into the hole with the fewest strokes possible. It’s a lot like traditional golf in that way.
The courses, however, vary. A mini golf course is made up of different holes, each with its own unique obstacles and challenges.
Each hole has a “par,” which is the number of strokes a skilled player should take to complete the hole. You should try to meet or beat par on each hole. That’s your primary goal.
As you progress through the course, be on the lookout for ramps, tunnels and even moving parts that make the game a challenge.
How to Play Mini Golf
You can play a round of miniature golf by following a few easy steps. It really is that simple!
1. Tee Off
Place your ball at the starting point on the first hole. Use your putter to gently hit the ball toward the hole.
2. Navigate Obstacles
Depending on the hole, you may need to hit the ball through tunnels, around corners, or over ramps. Be patient and take your time to line up each shot.
3. Score Your Round
Count each stroke you take to get the ball into the hole. Write down your score after each hole on your scorecard.
4. Win the Game
Place your ball at the starting point on the first hole. Use your putter to gently hit the ball towavard the hole.
Mini Golf Rules
While the game itself is simple enough, remembering some rules will help you along your way.
Limit Your Strokes
Most mini-golf courses set a maximum number of strokes per hole (usually six). That way games aren’t held up by inexperienced golfers. If you don’t make the hole in that many strokes, move on to the next hole.
Respect the Course
Avoid damaging the obstacles or the course itself. Be gentle with your putter and remain mindful of your surroundings.
One Shot at a Time
Players take turns, with each player completing their shot before the next person plays. Traditionally, the player furthest from the hole takes their turn, but some people prefer a back-and-forth turn progression.
Stay Behind the Line
Wait until the player in front of you has completed their shot before you step up. Crowing the player ahead of you is poor form.
How Long Does Mini Golf Take?
How long does it take to complete a round of mini golf? The length of the game varies depending on the number of players, their skill, and the course’s complexity.
If two golfers are playing, you should expect to spend about 30-45 minutes on an 18-hole course. A group of four golfers might take 60-90 minutes to complete the same course.
